Family Resource Center for Disabilities and Special Needs The Family Resource Center for Disabilities and Special Needs, Inc. is a not for profit organization located in Charleston, South Carolina providing information services throughout the Lowcountry. The Family Resource Center was organized to promote opportunities for learning, inclusion, and empowerment for individuals with disabilities and special needs, their families, and their communities through such means as education, advocacy and outreach. The Board of Directors, comprised of parents and professionals from the tri-county, will always contain in majority, members who are parents or family members of individuals with disabilities. The Family Resource Center is funded through grants, donations, fundraisers and community support. The Family Resource Center is a non-profit corporation registered with the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization. Donations to the Center are tax deductible according to federal guidelines. The Board invites inquires regarding the activities of The Family Resource Center and welcomes support from the tri-county area to accomplish our mission. The Family Resource Center sponsors projects that support its mission:
Parent Training and Resource Center (PTRC) The PTRC is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Education to provide education, training and support to families accessing special education services in Berkeley, Dorchester & Charleston Counties. Services Include:
Project REST (Restraint: Efficacy, Safety & Training) Lead by a Development Committee comprised of parents, educators, school administrators, community advocates and consultants from the State Department of Education, Project REST is examining the use of restraint techniques on children with disabilities in public schools. By means of an addendum to the IEP, the Project will promote best practice, school accountability and parent participation. Advocacy Coalition for People with Disabilities The Advocacy Coalition for People with Disabilities , a partnership of area support groups, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment and support of parents, families, and individuals with disabilities in the lowcountry of South Carolina. The ACPD is composed of charter organizations that come together to advocate locally and statewide on issues relating to disabilities and special needs.
